Lakeview Renovation
Figuring out the client's design style was a modern take on art deco was just the start of the fun!
This is a repeat client who wasn't quite ready to dive into a full design renovation at first, but still wanted to make a huge impact on his space, so he commissioned us for a custom piece of art for a large blank wall in his home. This turned into the custom wooden Chicago Flag that was then incorporated into the full renovation! This flag has been the backdrop in many of his photos and videos as he shares much of his real estate content from the comfort of his own home.
After a few years went by, he was ready for the full renovation! We explored his style together to hone in on the super unique vibe of rustic art deco! We made several bold choices like the main room drop ceiling with lattice work and led strips to accompany an 18 candelabra chandelier as the true focal point of the room. The many types of lighting allows for all different types of entertainment while giving you that spectacular and impactful WOW moment when you first walk in! For this space the client requested to keep his current living room furniture, but the rest of the home was fair game for us to update and renovate, so we really started with how we could create a warm, cozy environment in each individual space while making the home cohesive throughout.
As you walk through this home, every room is cohesive via style and color palette while incorporating the client's unique personal touches, whether they be new or inherited antiques. The curio cabinet was refinished and lit to showcase his many family heirlooms as a gorgeous way to enter the home. The bedroom has a new art deco styled bed paired with the home's unique fireplace and antique heirloom chair, table, and super unique lamp. These were passed down from his mother, so they mean the world to him.
As you work your way into the smaller spaces like the dining room and bedroom, these have lower ceilings painted the same color as the walls to become the perfect intimate environments for gatherings and family dinners, or to wind down from a long day. With chandeliers and molding added for drama and flair, these rooms create the perfect ambiance to relax and enjoy life. The added details of trim work on the ceilings elevated these spaces to complete the art deco look. An archway was added to enter the dining room to create a more dramatic entrance that frames the 8 person custom made lucite table. The rustic elements from the living room were incorporated by laying down 2 cowhide rugs as the base to this stunning table and bold chandelier.
The bathrooms are where we truly took things to the next level with art deco and rustic boldness. The unique combination of the two styles offers warmth and flair unlike any other rooms in the house. Both of the bathrooms have a dark and dramatic flair to them. The guest bath has the golden flair of art deco with sconces that evoke the time period. The master bath is where we went with a super bold move by taking one of the client's favorite things, flowers, and making that the main focal element of the room with a custom mural that surrounds every wall of the room! We simply updated the cabinets with paint, and added period piece hardware and faucets to bring in the art deco elements. The lighted mirrors bring in the perfect amount of light to be incredibly flattering, ensuring you look your best every day! These rooms have been the talk of the town and were some of the most popular rooms when this home aired on the Travel Channel, along with an exclusive interview with myself and one of my partner contractors! This home is the perfect example of how we take what we learn about our clients and build a home that is as extraordinarily unique as they are, so that when they come home they feel at home and at peace!
Review From the Owner:
I can endorse Brock’s talents on two accounts: first off, he’s been the designer of many of my friends & clients’ homes. His look is unique and personal to the individual he is working with. The thoughtfulness behind his design work is only matched by its utility and creativity. No two homes are alike. Secondly, I personally hired him for my own home, to create an art wall that would be like no other and yet say something personal about my relationship with Chicago. With not much to work with from me, he created a space in my home that many people consider it’s highlight and defining feature. He is a treasure as well as a delight to work with.
